DPWH to open first phase of Laguna Lake Highway today

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is scheduled to open today, February 9, two new lanes on the Laguna Lake Highway, formerly known as the C-6 Dike Road.

“The opening of the additional two lanes from from Napindan to M. L. Quezon section in Taguig City is the first phase of the Laguna Lake Highway project, which is expected to reduce travel time from Taytay to Bicutan by about 50 percent ,” said DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar.

Complementing the road widening is the ongoing construction of two additional lanes on the Napindan Bridge 2 which is expected to be completed by December 2017.

The Laguna Lake Highway Project covers 10.7 kilometers and includes the construction or widening of two bridges, the rehabilitation of existing asphalt roads with a provision of adding two additional lanes, the construction of two-meter-wide planting strips and a three-meter-wide bike lane; all at a cost of P1.23 billion.

“The thrust of the Duterte Administration is to ensure not only mobility of vehicles but also individuals," Villar added. "More bike lanes, sidewalks will be installed throughout the country.”

When completed, the Laguna Lake Highway is expected to reduce travel time from Taytay to Bicutan from one hour to around 30 minutes.
