The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a P1 fare hike for public utility jeepneys that ply their respective routes in Metro Manila, and Regions 3 and 4.

According to LTFRB Board Member Aileen Lizada, the fare hike--which will see the minimum fare go up from the current P7 to P8--will be implemented 15 days after the publication of the agency's order.

The agency reportedly granted the fare hike upon the petition of transport groups Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO), Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (ALTODAP), Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP), and Liga ng Transportation at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP) because of the continuing oil price hikes weekly.
