The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be adding another truck lane right alongside the present one on C-5 within the month "to facilitate faster transport of delivery trucks in the whole stretch of C-5 which has seen a huge increase in the volume of trucks passing through during truck hours."
The decision to allot an extra truck lane for, well, trucks came after the agency met with officials from the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines (CTAP) led by former Land Transportation Office chief Alberto Suansing. According to the MMDA, CTAP raised the need for an extra truck lane because the existing one "is not enough and has caused delay in the delivery of goods."
The additional truck lane will reportedly be on the right side of the existing one and will be implemented once the appropriate signs and road markings are completed by the agency's Traffic Engineering Center.
Private motorists need not worry about the additional truck lane making the traffic along C-5 worse since it will only be operational from 12 midnight to 4a.m..
