FUTURE-PROOFING THE CAR BUYER

In the not-so-distant future, a kid is browsing internet content by waving his hand in front of a hologram beamed into the center of his bedroom.

As he downloads terrabytes of hopefully useful information, his parents are doing the same thing in the living room. Dad is spinning a 3D rendering of a new sedan that has caught his fancy. He inspects it more closely by deftly swiping his forefinger and thumb at a section of the coupe.

“How about this, sweetheart?” he brightly declares, almost willing a positive reply from his spouse. She glares at him momentarily, then uncrosses her hands – positioning a palm in front of the image of the car, makes a fist, and drags it to a virtual trash bin. “I said I wanted a practical car. How are we supposed to do the groceries in that thing?”

This utopian (dystopian?) tomorrow may be closer than we think, but we are surely getting there via science and technology – i.e. algorithms, programs, and the general ubiquity of
connectivity.

Indeed, who would’ve believed that e-commerce would reach the stratospheric heights it has? Physical stores aren’t exactly quivering in their boots, but it behooves them not to be
complacent either. For now at least, there’s seems to be an uneasy truce between the physical and virtual domain as far as competing for consumer spend is concerned.

Having said that, you are receiving this first-ever issue of the Carmudi e-magazine precisely because you are already sold on the idea of e-commerce as a viable way to do business or even buy products – such as, surprise, a car. The online marketplace is getting increasingly pervasive by the day and, with improving broadband connectivity, we can only expect it to become more prevalent.

So, pat yourself on the back because as you embrace the future today (through Carmudi), not only are you benefiting from the best online vehicle marketplace but are, in a real
way, future-proofing yourself. Then again, the future is now.

As you may have already guessed, the Philippines is no longer the economic laggard of Asia, particularly when it comes to the automotive industry. In fact, at no point in our history have we seen such an abundance of brands and vehicle models – from budget sub-compacts to the most expensive luxury rides from Europe. That spells good news all around, notwithstanding the horrible state of everyday traffic.

Because we are spoilt for choice, it is incumbent upon the responsible consumer to perform, well, due diligence. The myriad of selections can prove bewildering, and as we’ve seen so many times, not everything you read online is true or credible. Misrepresentations by unscrupulous sellers happen more often than we’d like. Oh, what to do? Head on over to
carmudi.com.ph, that’s what.

Meanwhile, this e-mag endeavors to augment your experience and expertise. We also promise to keep you abreast of what’s up in the motoring industry – everything on two
wheels and up. We’ll try to keep our ears on the ground, and let you know what’s coming. Come on; the future awaits!
